The exhibition of the sculptor Tea Curk Sorta, who also holds an MA in Fine Arts, presents two cycles of works: Through the Passage (2017–2018) and Self-portraits (2019–). Both are represented by the typical wire sculptures that in its material form assume the characteristic of line, which creates volume and draws lines through space.

The wire sculptures emanate a sense of lightness and airiness as well as represent the dimension of change. Compared to more traditional sculpture material, wire is much more influenced by time; the lines drawn by the artist are variable, which makes the used material a grateful foundation for thinking about man and society, so inevitably defined by time and changes.

The wire drawings depict women figures that are a regular feature of the artist’s works. Interested in the role and position of women in today’s society, while at the same time – especially in the cycle Self-portraits – Tea Curk Sorta passes over into autofiction, looking into herself. Some of the wire drawings of this cycle were created in the self-isolation period when there was more time to reflect upon society and ourselves.

A typical characteristic of the cycle Self-portraits is that the artist frames an individual – according to the title probably her own alter ego – surrounds it with various faces and finally exhibits it as a classical painting. The cycle Through the Passage, on the other hand, is different; the individuals are grouped and positioned in the gallery space. The self-ness of an individual is at this point deceived, opening up the space for reflection on one’s position in society.


Kiparka in magistrica umetnosti Tea Curk Sorta se na razstavi predstavlja z dvema cikloma Skozi prehod (2017–2018) in Avtoportreti (2019–). Oba tvorijo za umetnico značilni kipi iz žice, ki kot material prevzema lastnost črte, s katero ustvarja volumen in riše v prostor.

Uporaba žice vnese v skulpture lahkotnost in zračnost, pa tudi dimenzijo spremembe. Žici se v nasprotju z bolj tradicionalnimi kiparskimi materiali močneje pozna čas; linije, ki jih umetnica začrta, so spremenljive, zato je izbrani material hvaležna podlaga za razmislek o človeku in družbi, ki ga prav tako neizogibno definirata čas in spremembe.

Z žičnimi risbami umetnica večinoma upodablja ženske figure, ki so stalnica njenega dosedanjega opusa. Zanimajo jo vloge in položaj, ki ga imajo ženske v današnji družbi, hkrati pa – predvsem v ciklu Avtoportreti – prehaja v avtofikcijsko razpoloženje in se zazira vase. Nekatere žične slike tega cikla so nastale v obdobju samoizolacije, ko nam je bilo danega več časa za premislek o družbi in nas samih.

Za cikel Avtoportreti je značilno, da umetnica uokviri posameznika, glede na naslov verjetno svoj alter ego, ga obda z različnimi obrazi in razstavi kot klasično sliko. Drugače pa je s kipi iz cikla Skozi prehod, ki jih postavi v skupino in razporedi po prostoru. Tu je samost enega premagana, s tem pa vzpostavljen razmislek o posameznikovi poziciji v družbi.
